Air Travel Greek Airport Traffic Up in First Six Months by GTP editing team 13 July 2015 written by GTP editing team 13 July 2015 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 10 Photo: AIA Passenger traffic through Greek airports increased by 14.6 percent in the first half of the year, compared to the same period in 2014, recording an 8.7 percent rise in the total number of flights over the same period, according to data released by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) on Friday. The HCAA findings reveal that 179,343 flights were handled by Greek airports: 84,360 international and 94,983 thousand domestic — demonstrating an 11 percent increase in the number of domestic flights and a 6.8 percent rise in international flights — compared to the same period in 2014, which came to 164,964 flights. At the same time, Greek airports handled 18.7 million passengers in the first half of 2015, marking a 14.6 percent rise against the same period in 2014, which came to 16.3 million passengers. For the month of June, the total number of domestic and international flights rose by 5.7 percent and total passenger traffic by 13.05 percent. Athens, Thessaloniki and Chania airports were the busiest in June, recording the highest passenger count.
