In interviews to CNN, the London Times and Sky News, among others, HotelBrain founder and president Panos Paleologos underlined that tourism professionals countrywide demonstrated exemplary responsibility and honored their guests despite the political and economic turmoil and the negative media portrayal. With regards to news of cancellations, Mr Paleologos said these were mostly reservations put on hold, “which have been restored in the last few days. We hope that like last year this will be a record year for Greek tourism. Greece is undeniably now a developed and high-quality tourist destination… in these rough times, we have felt the support of European travelers and this has given us strength, optimism and a great sense of responsibility”. Commenting on the recent news of a value-added tax hike affecting tourism services, Mr Paleologos underlined that though money is an issue, it is above all everyone’s responsibility to keep Greece in the EU and out of financial strains. “Tourism is mostly a matter of quality and this is what will keep Greece competitive,” he added. Earlier this year investment fund SouthBridge Europe backed HotelBrain with 3 million euros for the development of its sustainable growth plan. Founded in 2009 and initially based on the island of Santorini, HotelBrain currently manages over 110 hotels in more than 35 destinations in Greece, Lebanon, Cyprus and Turkey. In 2013, HotelBrain was added to the global network of Endeavor Greece, an international non-profit organization, which selects and supports the most promising companies around the world.
