Event News Greek Film Festival to Launch in Berlin to Strengthen Ties Between Greece and Germany by GTP editing team 27 July 2015 written by GTP editing team 27 July 2015 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 4 Aiming to promote and strengthen the German-Greek friendship and the European spirit in Berlin and all over Germany through cultural projects, the German-Greek Cultural Association is inviting Greek filmmakers to participate in the HELLAS FILMBOX BERLIN festival which will take place in January 2016. HELLAS FILMBOX BERLIN is a Greek film festival established in 2015 to highlight the current, highly artistic Greek film scene and present it to a German audience. “Films are a unique source to communicate and a great medium through which to expand alternate ways of thinking and seeing Greece and its culture”, it is underlined on the festival’s website. According to HELLAS FILMBOX BERLIN, the festival aspires to be a platform for “New Greek Cinema” and provide insight into Greece’s current situation, its people, inner conflicts and secrets. “To see this land through the eyes of its cinematographers should give the German audience a clear, direct and honest experience — one that is almost impossible to gain through the German media these days. Greek films have far more to say about the crisis happening in Greece than daily German newspapers.” The founder of the German-Greek Cultural Association and Festival Director, Asteris Kutulas, says that HELLAS FILMBOX BERLIN would like to start a constructive dialogue between Greece and Germany by highlighting the current “emotional and political cracks” between the two countries. “Films in general trigger a range of opinions which is the best starting point for any discussion.” Eligible films include works by Greek filmmakers and filmmakers of Greek descent worldwide; or/and films about Greece; or/and Greek and Cypriot productions or co-productions; or/and films by emerging filmmakers with prevalent Greek theme. Filmmakers are invited to submit their films between August 1 and September 30 for consideration. For further information, press here. Some 35 Greek films will be screened at the HELLAS FILMBOX BERLIN which will take place January 21-14, 2016, at Babylon, one of the oldest and most historical cinemas of East Berlin. The festival will aim to be established as an annual event. The German-Greek Cultural Association is a non-profit organization which was founded in April 2015 in Berlin by a group of German and Greek initiators.
