Hosting the 2015 Travel Convention of the Association of British Travel Agents can be a great way for the Greek Region of the Peloponnese to showcase itself to the travel industry and for key players in the industry to forge new relationships with that destination, according to ABTA’s chief executive, Mark Tanzer.

The ABTA Travel Convention is considered a top tourism event and is expected to attract over 600 British travel agents/ABTA members and representatives of Internet companies Google, Yahoo, Tripadvisor and travel writers of leading British publications.

It is estimated that host destinations of the ABTA convention see a some 25 percent increase in arrivals from the United Kingdom within a few months of the convention’s organization.

Convention boost for Slovenia

“Last year The Travel Convention was hosted in the beautiful city of Ljubljana in Slovenia and this week figures released from the Republic of Slovenia’s Statistical Office, show that so far this year Slovenia welcomed 24 percent more UK visitors than 2014 with a 15 percent increase in overnight stays”, Mr. Tanzer noted in an announcement on ABTA’s website.

ABTA’s chief executive added that while there are many reasons behind Slovenia’s growing success in attracting British tourists, The Travel Convention has no doubt helped support this growth by offering delegates and the media the opportunity to experience what the country has to offer and opening up new relationships.

“This year, the Costa Navarino in the Greek Region of the Peloponnese hopes to emulate this success by inviting the industry to explore a lesser visited part of Greece that is steeped in natural beauty and has a rich cultural history.

“With the economic drama of the last couple of months calming down, building new tourism links will be more important than ever for the Greeks and delegates can expect a very warm welcome and excellent hospitality as well as the chance to explore new opportunities with one of the world’s top tourist destinations“, Mr. Tanzer concluded.

The last time Greece hosted the Convention was in 2000 on Kos Island.
