The Athena initiative is part of a larger project being hosted and tested out on Agistri, aiming to boost local business while marketing the island as an unspoilt tourist destination. The three winners will receive prizes worth 10,000 euros in cryptocurrency, which can be used for purchases or redeemed in gold. Home to some 1,000 permanent residents and less than hour from the port of Piraeus, Agistri is an ideal destination while on a break in Athens. Organizers are hoping that if the Agistri case is successful, then it could be applied across the country. They invite people to spread the word about the campaign on social media.
