The 300 or so villagers of this tiny haunt in the Evrytania region, central Greece, decided to take action and leave capital controls, negative media coverage and political wangling behind and make sure tourists stay in their town. How? Everything costs less than 2 euros. At the cafe in the village square you’ll find locals and foreigners enjoying their ouzo at 1 euro, ice cold beer at 1.50 euros, tsipouro at .50 cents and all other alcoholic beverages at 2 euros. Valaora is a small farming village at an altitude of 500m some 77km northwest of Karpenisi. The villagers, mostly farmers by day, say a stroll in their town with a euro in your pocket is enough to bring bliss to your day.
