According to an announcement, shortly after launching scheduled international service in May, SkyGreece suffered financial setbacks as a result of the Greek economic crisis. Technical issues followed recently, which resulted to a system-wide multi-day delay on flights and significant additional expenses to the company. “SkyGreece Airlines would like to apologize to all of its passengers who have been affected as a result of the Company’s current operational crisis”, the company’s announcement read. The airline said it expects to resume operations soon and advised passengers to contact their travel agent to arrange alternate travel or accommodations. SkyGreece Airlines was founded in Athens, Greece, in October 2012, by a group of Greek-Canadian entrepreneurs. The company’s main mission was to offer non-stop flights between Greece and North America to ease the connection for the Greek diaspora with their homeland. The airline started its North America operations on May 23 with direct flights between Athens, Thessaloniki, Budapest and Zagreb and Montreal and Toronto. However, according to reports, the company began experiencing technical problems with its aircraft during the summer, causing the flight schedule to fall behind by several days. This was followed by flight cancellations and stranded passengers. Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
