As part of its ongoing efforts to boost the Greek capital as a leading all-year tourism destination, the Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) held the “This is Athens – Experience Design” workshop earlier this month at the Impact Hub. The workshop was organized by destination marketing agency Toposophy. Over 50 tourism opinion influencers including sector professionals, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), Aegean Airlines, Athens International Airport, the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), the Hellenic Association of Travel & Tourist Agencies (HATTA), local administration, media, “This is MY Athens” volunteers as well as experience designers from abroad worked together to re-design the Athens tourist experience. Aggeliki Varela, General Manager for Promotion of the GNTO; Alexis Galinos, CEO of the Athens Development & Destination Management Agency; and Ioanna Papadopoulou, director of communications and marketing of Athens International Airport (AIA).Τhe CEO of Toposophy, Manolis Psarros. The CEO of Τourismusdesign, Martin Schobert. Depending on the “profile” of the potential Athens visitor — luxury, budget, family, culture, shopping, gastronomy, nightlife — the event participants re-designed an Athens experience suitable for every taste under the title a “Perfect Day”. To test the new “experience” the municipal authorities will be welcoming travel bloggers through to October, who will have the chance to experience their “Perfect Day” in Athens during a series of three-day fam trips organized by the municipality, the ACVB and the Athens Development and Tourism Promotion Company (EATA). The bloggers, representing the different types of potential visitors, will be treated to “Athens Moments” depending on their profile and at the same time, will share their experiences online through their own and the city’s social media.
