DQS Hellas is a subsidiary of Germany’s DQS GmbH, a leading certification and assessment body active in 130 countries, with over 2,400 reviewers and 55,000 accredited business units worldwide. Approximately 50,000 hotels and rooms to let in Greece, will be required by the end of 2017 to secure classification under the new rating system in stars or keys from one of the 10 accredited certification bodies in order to maintain their Special Seal of Operation. Total turnover from this procedure is expected to come to 26 million euros, according to DQS Hellas President Dr Emmanouel Deliyannakis. DQS Hellas is already handling 80 applications for classification, which at its minimum cost — for a 25-room unit — is estimated at around 500 euros. For a larger hotel complex requiring an inspection process of up to eight days, the minimum cost comes to about 4,000 euros. In efforts to offer friendlier rates for regional accommodation units, DQS Ηellas has decided to work with local reviewers.
