According to data released by AIA, some 1.86 million travelers passed through the capital’s gateway in September 2015, compared with 1.6 million in September 2014. Both domestic and international passengers grew at a similar pace of 15.2 percent and 14.4 percent, respectively. Foreign visitors enjoyed a rise of 25 percent, whereas Greek travellers demonstrated a decline of 5 percent, due to their lower demand for international trips. Overall, during the January-September 2015 period, the airport’s traffic reached 14.1 million passengers, surpassing prior-year levels by 21 percent, with domestic travellers increasing by 24.6 percent and international passengers by 19.2 percent. Greek travellers demonstrated a rise of 12 percent, while foreign visitors grew by 28 percent.
