Celestyal Cruises_logoAs part of its three-day and four-day “Images of the Aegean” routes, Celestyal Cruises introduces travelers to the secrets of Greek island cuisine, and the GTP was there to sample the treats.

As part of its ongoing efforts to promote Greek cuisine and introduce voyagers to local products, Celestyal Cruises organizes cooking lessons on board its cruises to the Greek islands.

During the September itinerary to Mykonos, Kusadasi, Patmos, Rhodes, Crete and Santorini, the “Vows of Love” cooking event featured home-cook and owner of 5-star boutique hotel Liostasi Ios Hotel & Spa, Despina Denaxa, and Maria Kontonikoli, owner of traditional products shop “Mosenta” – both from the island of Ios.

The two women prepared traditional sweets from the Cycladic islands – “mosenta” (watermelon pie), “melitinia” or “myzithropittes” (myzithra cheese pies) and “amygdalota” (macaroons) – using local products, including myzithra cheese and honey from Ios, among others. Celestyal travelers had the chance to sample the goodies, ask questions and learn more about Greek island cuisine and its integral role in island culture.

The event, organized by George Kalostos, is part of a series introducing different aspects of island cuisine and pastry making as well as the secrets of the Mediterranean Diet, presented by a number of acclaimed cooks, chefs and dieticians.
