Aegean_Airlines_Airbus_A320-232ΑEGEAN and Olympic Air carried 9.2 million passengers during the first nine months of the year, an increase of 17 percent over the same period last year.

According to traffic data released by AEGEAN recently, the positive trend in the summer’s passenger traffic continued actively throughout the July – September 2015 tourism period during which both airlines carried 4.2 million passengers, recording a 19 percent increase (696 thousand more passengers) over the same period in 2014.

“The company’s increase in terms of international passengers was once more higher than the market average, contributing thus actively to the country’s tourism and economy”, an announcement read.

In particular, from July to September 2015, AEGEAN transferred some 2.3 million passengers via its international network recording an increase of 29 percent comparing to the same period in 2014 (1.8 million passengers). The positive trend continued into September resulting in a 28 percent increase in international traffic, i.e. in 709 thousand more passengers.

“We are proud that AEGEAN was able to provide growth, both in quantitative and qualitative terms, through new connections and new aircraft both from the base in Athens, and in particular from Crete and Rhodes, which have suffered the effects of the crisis in Russia”, AEGEAN’s CEO, Dimitris Gerogiannis, said.

We contributed almost 50 percent of the additional international traffic to Greece in 2015“, he added.

AEGEAN was also very active in the domestic network with continuous low fare offers, launched to support Greek consumers. This led to a nine percent increase of domestic traffic against the 2014 respective quarter (1.9 million passengers against 1.7 million passengers last year).
