Indicatively, in the first nine months of 2015, AIA has handled a total of 14.1 million travelers. According to a report by the Airports Council International (ACI) and the Airport Market Research & Advisory Services (DKMA) passenger traffic at AIA will continue its upward trend and is by 2020 expected to reach 20 million travelers. According to the same findings, by 2025, AIA is expected to be handling more than 22 million passengers. Should the airport break the 18.9 million barrier, it will be required by international aviation law to set up a new terminal. According to To Vima tis Kyriakis, between 2001 and 2014, the Greek government has collected at total of 1,148 billion euros in dividends and taxes. In the meantime, Athens, Budapest and Vancouver were winners in the airport categories during the 2015 CAPA Aviation Awards for Excellence, held last week in Helsinki, as part of CAPA’s 2015 World Aviation Summit.
