Happenings Heraklion ‘Cake Pops’ its Way into Guinness Book of World Records by GTP editing team 20 October 2015 written by GTP editing team 20 October 2015 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 27 The Cretan port city of Heraklion made it into the Guinness Book of World Records last week, when some 1,034 people spent approximately two hours making 4,648 cake pops and then placing them in the longest line to date — measuring 162.90 meters. Jointly organized by the Heraklion-based Culinary Studies Center – Hospitality & Tourism Studies and the Heraklion Port Authority (HPA) under the motto: “Participating for the Destination – Participating for Heraklion”, the initiative invited residents and visitors to join up and promote Heraklion as a leading tourist destination… by breaking a world record. Participants, which included young and old, professionals and amateurs, managed to break three instead: to make the largest number of cake pops, the longest cake pop line, and break the record of participation with the greatest number of people while in the meantime contributing to charity. As part of efforts to promote Heraklion as a prime tourist destination, the HPA is working with professionals in the area of gastronomy, employing experiential tourism as a main attraction.
