Event News Tales of the Grape at UNESCO’s Wine Symposium on Santorini by GTP editing team 21 October 2015 written by GTP editing team 21 October 2015 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 12 Santorini’s vineyards, its unique grapevine varieties cultivated in the island’s rocky volcanic soils and its 3,500-year-old winemaking practices will take center stage on November 5-7 during UNESCO’s International Conference on the “Heritage and Development of Vine and Wine Territories”, to be held at the Petros M Nomikos Conference Centre in Thira. Organized by the University of Burgundy UNESCO chair, the Municipality of Thira, the Greek Wine Federation (SEO), the Inter-professional Organization of Greek Vines and Wines, and the Agricultural University of Athens, the three-day event will address issues such as the development of wine regions, the structure of bodies involved and the regulations governing them, the development and promotion of wine-growing traditions, new trends in viticulture practices, the benefits of enotourism, the advances in scientific and technical fields towards the best utilization of wine regions as well as new strategies for the promotion and marketing of wine products. The official languages of the conference are Greek, French and English. The congress will close with tours of the archaeological site of Akrotiri, local wineries and a gala dinner at the Pyrgos Restaurant. See full program here.
