Whether it’s shopping, cycling, food sampling, indulging in pasta, art exploring or merely walking the town, organizers of the Athens Marathon invite the runners, their friends, family and team, to participate in a series of events and happenings in the run-up to the Authentic Marathon on Sunday, November 8. The events are part of a promotional initiative launched by the Athens – Attica & Argosaronic Hotel Association (AHA). On the occasion of the mega sporting event, AHA has joined forces with Athens restauranteurs, entrepreneurs, museums, cultural centers, tour operators and cruise organisers forces to present the diversity of the Greek capital and offer visitors the chance to learn more about what’s on offer. Activities — all offering discounts to Marathon participants — include discount shopping, with stores opening their doors on Sunday, November 1, with the launch of special sales for the Marathon. History lovers will have a chance on November 2 to take a tour titled “Athenian Democracy”, which comes to a close with an archery lesson. For the foodies, November 3 brings special “Food Tours” and November 4 is all about escaping to the Saronic isles on a day trip with Olympic Cruises. November 5 includes a visit to the Acropolis Museum as well as the launch of the Ergo Marathon Expo at the Taek Won Do Hall in Faliro, for professional and amateur runners. On November 6, take the Red bus for a sightseeing tour of the city. Ahead of the race, it’s tradition to partake in the pasta parties organized at the Marathon Hotels, which will also serve a hearty breakfast on Marathon day Sunday at 5am. The same hotels will also offer massage and spa treatment after the big run.
