It’s commonly accepted that having passed a rather turbulent summer, the Greek travel industry managed to support and protect its business environment. All the involved parties, travel agents, airlines, hotels, etc, demonstrated a high level of professionalism and proved that they are financially solid companies with highly capable and reliable management.

This is especially true for the sector of IATA accredited travel agencies which had to balance a unique business environment and protect, besides their own, the interests of IATA, international airlines and more importantly, their customers. During this period, they proved their strong ties with their clientele and verified once more their valuable role in the distribution chain of airline products.

This role is often questioned by the airlines and our colleagues are witnessing signals of a radically changing environment in the distribution model.

Recent decisions of major carriers to redesign their relationship with GDSs as well as to switch costs in other parts of the distribution chain — in particular to travel agencies — are of major importance. The consequences of similar decisions and the instability they are causing are not fully exploited yet.

IATA accredited travel agencies are holding an important role in air transportation, travel and tourism in Greece. Our Union will continue to safeguard the smooth and effective cooperation of all the involved parties and ultimately the provision of high quality air transportation at a fair price.

In this respect we strongly support the active participation in international exhibitions and events which is always a great opportunity to exchange views, establish trust and secure growth.
