Athens International Airport (AIA) is among the Top 5 European facilities demonstrating the highest growth in September, according to a monthly traffic report released last week by European airport trade body, ACI Europe.

The ACI Europe Airport Traffic report, which includes network, low cost and charter flights, found that in September 2015, AIA reported a 14.7 percent increase in the number of passengers it handled, ranking fourth.

Tel Aviv Airport was positioned first with 31.2 percent growth, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen came second with a 22.6 percent increase, Ankara third with a 16.5 percent rise and Dublin fifth up by 14.3 percent.

Third quarter results for 2015 indicate similar findings with AIA ranked fourth again at 18.3 percent after Tel Aviv with 25.1 percent, Istanbul SAW at 24.1 percent and Ankara 19.5 percent, and followed by Dublin with 15.6 percent growth.

ACI Europe reported meanwhile that passenger traffic at European airports increased 6.2 percent year-on-year in September 2015. Average passenger traffic grew by 6.3 percent year-on-year at EU airports.
