russian-flag_facePaving the way for the official launch of the “Cross-year Greece and Russia” in 2016, the municipalities of Athens and Thessaloniki have begun to organize and host activities beginning with a visit by 15 Russian journalists to the Greek capital for a week on November 22-28.

In the meantime, Thessaloniki, which is also a sister city with St Petersburg, has also decided to participate in the cross-year celebrations with a series of activities and events aimed at further enhancing the relations between the two countries but also between the two cities.

Among the events on the agenda organized by the Thessaloniki municipality are a round-table discussion on “Academic Ideas Practiced in Cities”, concerts, poetry readings, and a photo exhibition titled “Thessaloniki and Mt Athos at the Start of the 20th Century”.

Parallel events for the cross-year festivities are set to take place in Moscow, St Petersburg and other Russian cities, and will include economic forums and conferences as well as cultural, educational and tourism initiatives.
