According to the survey, Greece holds the sixth place on the list with the total number of hotels of that category adding up to some 420 units, which represents two percent of the country’s total accommodation capacity. China is first on the Top 10 list with some 2,940 5-star hotels, which represents approximately two percent of all of the country’s units, followed by Turkey with some 800 5-star hotels, which account for six percent of the country’s total. Mexico is in the third place with some 670 5-star hotels (seven percent of the total), followed by Italy with some 450 (one percent of the total) and India with around 43o 5-star hotels (two percent of the total). Spain is in the seventh place with approximately 335 5-star hotels (one percent of the total) and is followed by the United States with about 330 (0.4 percent of the total), the United Kingdom with about 320 5-star hotels (one percent of the total) and South Africa with about 285 5-star hotels (for percent of the total). In regards to the Top 10 cities worldwide with the most 5-star hotels, Beijing is in the first place and is followed by Shanghai, Istanbul, Marrakech and London. Two cities of China, Sanya and Canton, occupy the sixth and seventh places respectively. Dubai is in the eight place and is followed by Sharm el-Sheikh (Egypt) and the Chinese city Changzhou. trivago.gr carried out the survey by analyzing the total number of luxury hotels in each country and comparing them to the total number of accommodation units available in every destination.
