Promoting the Greek capital as a leading city break and MICE destination was at the center of the Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (ACVB) strategy, which it put into practice at this year’s IBTM World 2015, held recently in Barcelona, Spain.

The ACVB participated in the sector trade fair which this year recorded a record number of appointments, over 80,000 scheduled before the start of the show, among some 4,000 hosted buyers in attendance.

According to the ACVB, foreign professionals in tourism expressed a steady interest in Athens as a city break but also a conference destination, with ACVB representatives participating in more than 60 meetings with hosted buyers.

Main queries included the highlights of Athens as a destination, ACVB services, and information on how to organize an event in the Greek capital. Meanwhile, there was increased interest in incentive travel as well as selecting Athens as a host city for major international conferences in period 2017-2019.
