For three days — from December 11 until December 13 — a big chessboard will open its 64 black-and-white squares right in the airport. The knights will be set and the kings and queens will take their place on the board. Travellers will be invited to take part in powerful and unpredictable chess games right before or after their check-in. On Friday, December 11, the head of the Koropi Chess Club, Vassilis Andronis, will be at the airport to introduce travellers to the world of chess and explain the philosophy of the game. He will be accompanied by the two Panhellenic Chess Champions Nadia and Dimitra Androni, who will present the historic 1984 match between Kasparov and Karpov. During the weekend of December 12-13, several Greek chess clubs will honor the event with their presence. The chess event will take place in celebration of World Children’s Day. Program Friday 11 December 2015 – 12:00 – 14:00: “Chess talk” by Vassilis Andronis. Presentation of historic chess match between World Champions Kasparov and Karpov (1984). – 14:00 – 16:00: Free chess play for the visitors of the airport. Saturday 12 December 2015 – 12:00 – 14:00: Junior Chess Clubs visit and matches. – 14:00 – 16:00: Free chess play for the visitors of the airport. Sunday 13 December 2015 – 12:00 – 14:00: Junior Chess Clubs visit and matches. – 14:00 – 16:00: Free chess play for the visitors of the airport. The chess event is part of the new interactive section Let me Play of the Fly me to the Moon event program, a manifold cooperation between Athens International Airport and ελculture cultural platform. Let me Play events will pleasantly surprise visitors and passengers of the airport and transform the airport’s indoor space into an entertaining platform with floor games for all.
