The city of Naoussa is set to welcome wine lovers from across the country during its three-day festival “City of Wine”, which kicks off tomorrow at the Vetlans Multi-space and runs through to December 13.

The pièce de résistance,of course, will be none other than the region’s most famed variety — the xinomavro — its history, role in local culinary traditions and contribution to the promotion of Greek winemaking internationally.

Naoussa Set to Titillate and Teach at Wine FestWine lovers, connoisseurs and wine-curious visitors will have the chance to sample an assortment of wines from Naoussa producers, taste local delicacies — both sweet and savoury and participate in workshops and seminars featuring acclaimed vine specialists who will speak on viticulture, winemaking, exports, promotion and marketing, ecotourism and gastronomy.

Parallel events include learning activities focused on the vineyard for kids and photo exhibits, while on the last day participating wineries will welcome visitors to their cellars for themed tasting events complete with food, music, dance, and wine, of course.

At the same time, throughout the weekend, the city’s wine-bars, restaurants, and inns will be paying tribute to the region’s famed xinomavro with special menus and discounts. For the restless visitors, a series of walking tours on Sunday will offer insight into the terroirs that produce the highly coveted PDO (protected designation of origin) variety. The tours (ranging from the more demanding 6km to the 30 minute walk) start at 10.30am on Sunday. For more info, visit www.trigiro.com/npo or call 6938-750310.
