The alternative forms of tourism, the wide array of accommodation facilities, the accessibility and the year-round potential were at the center of the Skiathos Municipality Tourism Development Committee’s strategy presented during the Greek Tourism Expo held in Athens earlier this month. The President of the Committee, municipal councillor Panos Diolettas, met with Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura to discuss issues affecting the island. “This has been a very good year for Skiathos. Despite the overall recession, we’ve managed to achieve and surpass our goals, attracting tourists mainly from the UK, Scandinavian countries, Italy, Greece and the Balkans,” Mr Diolettas said. Besides promoting Skiathos’ tourism options, members of the committee also met up with hosted buyers from Europe, the Balkans and Turkey to talk business. In the meantime, in tune with the season, the Skiathos Cultural Society joined the Skiathos Club in sister city Newport in the US via Skype for their annual Christmas carol event.
