Event News FITUR 2016: Kountoura to Promote Greece as a Destination in Spain by GTP editing team 19 January 2016 written by GTP editing team 19 January 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 4 Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura will depart for Spain on Tuesday to promote Greece during the International Tourism Trade Fair FITUR, which will run January 20-24 at Feria de Madrid. On Wednesday Minister Kountoura will attend the trade fair’s inauguration ceremony and later have a working meeting with the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Taleb Rifai. During her stay in Madrid, Ms. Kountoura will attend meetings with leading tour operators and representatives of the Spanish and international tourism market. At FITUR the alternate tourism minister will be present at the Greek National Tourism Organization’s (GNTO) stand and give interviews to local media to promote Greece to the Spanish market. In its 36th year, FITUR is a global meeting point for tourism professionals and the leading trade fair for inbound and outbound Ibero American markets. This year, the trade show registers a new record in participation, with 9,500 companies from 165 countries and regions and with nearly 60,000 square metres of exhibition space. The number of direct stand-holders is on the rise, with growth of 3% and 2% in occupation. An increasing number of visitors is also estimated, exceeding the figure of 222,551 attendees at the previous staging.
