Halkidiki_logo_1The region of Halkidiki in northern Greece, has attracted more than 300 million euros in investments in tourism in the last three years, the Halkidiki Tourism Organization (HTO) said this week.

And the efforts of the HTO don’t stop there. Local professionals, hoteliers and authorities are working together with their colleagues in Thessaloniki to increase the number of bookings and overnight stays as well as promote the region as an all-year tourist destination.

In this direction, HTO President Grigoris Tasios told a press conference that as of February, the HTO will become a member of the Thessaloniki Convention Bureau and will also join the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization during its participation in the EMITT – East Mediterranean International Tourism and Travel Exhibition to be held in Beylikdüzü, Turkey, on January 28-31.

Referring to the investments in the region — made over the last three years in tourism-related areas including five-star hotels, holiday villages and related infrastructure — Mr Tasios referred to the Sani-Ikos joint venture announced earlier this month which may lead to a seventh unit in Halkidiki, to the Med Sea Health Mare Village project set to open this summer as well as to the potential of properties in the Posidi area and elsewhere expected to be up for grabs once an official tender is announced.
