Company updates KLM Welcomes ABN AMRO Bank to Corporate BioFuel Programme by GTP editing team 22 January 2016 written by GTP editing team 22 January 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 7 The ABN AMRO bank has become the 12th partner in KLM’s Corporate BioFuel Program. Corporations participating in the KLM program pay a surcharge that covers the price difference between sustainable biofuel and traditional kerosene. The agreement was recently signed at the ABN AMRO head office by Gerrit Zalm, Chairman of the Managing Board of ABN AMRO and Pieter Elbers, President & CEO of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. “We are pleased to join KLM’s sustainability initiative. As a bank, we are striving to reduce our CO2 emissions in various different areas. This programme effectively contributes to our efforts”, Mr Zalm said. KLM uses the surcharge to purchase sustainable biofuel, which is added to the fuel pumped into KLM aircraft at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and elsewhere. Consequently, the participating corporations reduce CO2 emissions resulting from their business travel, but also contribute to the further development of the biofuel market. KLM aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 20 percent in 2020 (compared to 2011), by way of fleet renewal, utilisation of sustainable biofuel, and improved flight efficiency. The sustainable biofuel for the KLM Corporate BioFuel Programme is supplied by SkyNRG, a company founded by KLM in 2010. The KLM Corporate BioFuel Programme was established in 2012. In addition to ABN AMRO, the programme’s partners include Accenture, CBRE, FMO, FrieslandCampina, City of Amsterdam, Heineken, Loyens & Loeff, Nike, PGGM, Perfetti Van Melle and the Schiphol Group.
