Registration Open for Athens Half Marathon 2016

Athens Half Marathon 2015Everyone is invited to take part in 5th Athens Half Marathon, the unique running event that takes place in the streets of downtown Athens!

Registration for the Athens Half Marathon 2016, co-organized by the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) and the City of Athens, has begun! The annual 21,100m race, which offers the opportunity to runners to run along the most historic and significant areas of the the Greek capital, is scheduled to be held on Sunday, March 20.

Athens Half Marathon LogoIn addition to the half marathon course, racing events include a 5K race and a 3K family race, which is open to families of four and welcomes young runners. The half marathon event also includes a 1000m race specially designed for people with disabilities and Special Olympics athletes.

In its fifth year, the Athens Half Marathon follows the success of the Athens Marathon. The Authentic and this year welcomes an increased number of runners.

The races of the 5th Athens Half Marathon are expected to attract over 20,000 participants.

According to SEGAS, as of this year the Athens Half Marathon will always be held on the third Sunday of March, in the dawn of the Greek spring.

“The ultimate target of the event’s organizing committee is to turn the Athens Half Marathon into a global, unique sport event with a strong cultural, entertaining and youthful character”, SEGAS said in an announcement.

SEGAS aims for the Athens Half Marathon to be Europe’s and the world’s “spring break” selection, as besides taking part in the event, participants will also get to  experience the amazing Mediterranean cuisine, the sea and sun, the culture, the history and the intense life of Athens.

Runners are invited to submit an application form through the official website www.athinahalfmarathon.gr to secure their participation.
