Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura will depart for Iran on Monday to represent Greece in the Tehran International Tourism Exhibition (TITE) which will take place February 16-19.

This is the first time the Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) will participate in the TITE expo with its own stand.

The alternate tourism minister will be accompanied by GNTO Secretary General Dimitris Tryfonopoulos who had recently visited Iran and made contacts with representatives of the Iranian tourism market.

While in Tehran, Ms Kountoura will meet with her Iranian counterpart, tour operators and representatives of the country’s tourism market in order to strengthen ties between the two countries and boost arrivals to Greece.

Her visit takes place one week after the official visit of Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to Iran.

Iran is a robust and populous country of 78 million inhabitants, with a strong middle class, high income and education levels. Iranians travel abroad mainly during the period of NOWROUZ (New Life) – about 15 days before and after New Years – but also during the summer.
