Greece, Egypt Sign Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Greece and Egypt for cooperation in the field of tourism with an aim to promote bilateral tourism between the two countries.

The MoU was recently signed between Greek Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura and her Egyptian counterpart, Hisham Zaazou, in Cairo.

The main objectives of the agreement include cooperation between the two countries to encourage two-way tourism and to promote joint travel packages to third countries.

According to the MoU, the countries will also cooperate to develop special forms of tourism, launch mutual tourism promotional activities and ease investment measures for Greek and Egyptian businessmen to carry out joint tourism projects.

Moreover, a joint tourism committee will be established for the implementation of the joint actions.

During her visit to Cairo, Ms Kountoura also met with Egypt’s Health Minister, Dr. Ahmed Rady, with whom she discussed the development prospects of medical tourism.

Her agenda also included a meeting with the country’s Civil Aviation Minister, Hossam Kamal, during which they discussed boosting bilateral agreements in the field of air traffic and increasing the regular and charter flights between Egypt and Greece, especially to the Egyptian tourist cities like Sharm el Sheikh, Hurghada, Luxor and Aswan.

They also discussed the development of joint travel packages to attract visitors from distant markets. and took up ways of benefiting from the membership of EgyptAir and Aegean Airlines in Star Alliance.

The official visit of Minister Kountoura to Cairo followed the invitation of her Egyptian counterpart. Her visit took place in the context of a wider cooperation between Greece and Egypt to strengthen bilateral relations as confirmed during the recent visit of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in Egypt and the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El- Sisi in Athens.
