Athens Half Marathon logoThose who are still interested in participating in the 5th Athens Half Marathon to be held on Sunday, March 20, in the Greek capital, still have a chance, it was announced at a press conference by the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) on Thursday.

Online registrations for the event closed two weeks ago, but SEGAS is accepting on the spot registrations for the Half Marathon until Saturday, March 19, at 8pm, at the Zappeion Megaron where the Half Marathon Expo 2016 is taking place.

In addition to the half marathon course, Sunday’s racing events include a 5K race and a 3K family run (open to families of four and welcomes young runners). The half marathon event also includes a 1,000m race specially designed for people with disabilities and Special Olympics athletes.

The races of the 5th Athens Half Marathon are expected to attract over 18,000 participants.

“We want the Athens Half Marathon to become an ambassador of our city to highlight its aspects and enhance tourism”, Christos Tentomas, President of City of Athens Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth, said during Thursday’s press conference, adding that he hopes the event attracts over 20,000 participants due to extended registration.

Mr Tentomas then announced two more events that will soon take place in the Greek capital: the Athens Bicycle Tour on April 17 and the 1st Akropolis Run on 21 May, which will take place at night around the Acropolis.

All the Athens Half Marathon Races start and finish in the heart of Athens, at Syntagma Square, in front of the Greek Parliament, running different courses in the historic city centre and passing by the main attractions of the city.

The Athens-Attica & Argosaronic Hotel Association (AHA) in collaboration with some 138 private and public institutions including museums, art spaces, galleries, shops and eateries are yet again lending their hands-on support to the Athens Half Marathon. Press here for details.

The Athens Half Marathon is an event co-organized yearly by the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) and the City of Athens and held under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization. The Athens Half Marathon is a full member of AIMS (International Association of Marathon Races and Distance Running) which is seated in Athens.

The Greek Travel Pages (GTP) is a media sponsor of the Athens Half Marathon.
