It’s all about being digital, branding better and selling more at the Social Media in Tourism Conference, set to take place on April 11 at the Center of Sustainable Entrepreneurship Excelixi in Nea Erythrea, Athens.

According to a Deloitte report, 50 percent of tourism sector professionals feel their business lags behind the competition in terms of digital presence. At the same time, photos and comments made by friends influence 52 percent of Facebook users when deciding about their holiday plans.

Five international social media experts – Peter Minkjan (Facebook), Michael Kessler (ReviewPro), Vincent Ramelli (Wihp Hotels), Kaspar Strandskov (online digital marketeer), and Nigel Camp (video expert) will introduce participants to the importance of the social media in getting their brand out on the market as well as how to engage and keep the customer coming.

Topics to be covered during the day event include utilizing Facebook, improving rankings on TripAdvisor and other travel sites, minimizing negative reviews, tapping into the potential of meta-search results, integrating Instagram into promotional strategies and using videos to boost online presence.

Besides an hour-long workshop on creating professional videos with the use of a smartphone, the conference will also include presentations of best practices implemented by Greek hotels, tour agencies and operators as well as by tourism promotion bodies.
