Inspired by Poem, German Daily ‘Die Zeit’ Sings Praises of Acropolis

Journalist Alard von Kittlitz recently came up close and personal with the history of the Acropolis and was mesmerised by the ancient monument on a recent visit to Athens, as he wrote in a travel feature for leading German daily newspaper Die Zeit which was published as part of a supplement entitled One Place – One Poem.

Inspired by a poem penned by Durs Grünbein, which refers to the Acropolis, Von Kittlitz enjoyed a private guided tour of the Acropolis Museum and learned about some of the secrets of ancient Greek civilisation from the museum’s chairman, archaeology professor Dimitrios Pandermalis. The journalist refers to “supernatural beauty [of the monument] and its absolute perfection”, noting “the intense emotions triggered when one sees the Acropolis for the first time, which cannot be compared, in any way, to that which you feel when looking at photographs of it”.

A total of 546,000 copies of the supplement circulated with the newspaper on March 10, while it was also distributed at Berlin’s ITB travel trade show between March 9 and 12.
