Surveys, Trends & Stats Greece’s Airports See 16.9% Increase in Travel during First Quarter of 2016 by GTP editing team 12 April 2016 written by GTP editing team 12 April 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 8 Rhodes International Airport A total of 5.7 million passengers passed through Greek airports during the first three months of the year, up 16.9 percent compared to the same period in 2015, which had handled 4.9 million passengers, according to data released on Tuesday by the Civil Aviation Authority. The total number of flights at Greek airports from January until March reached 60,542 (of which 37,646 were domestic flights and 22,896 were international flights) showing an increase of 8.4 percent (+10.8 percent on domestic flights and +4.7 percent on international flights) compared to the same period last year when 55,851 flights took place. During March, 2.14 million passengers passed through Greek airports, recording an increase of 19.75 percent. More specifically, domestic passengers were up by 25.8 percent and international passengers increased by 13.5 percent. The airports of Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Chania and Rhodes received the most passengers in March, according to the Civil Aviation Authority. Last month, according to the data, Athens’ airport welcomed 1,284,377 passengers, Thessaloniki’s passenger traffic amounted to 405,086 and 95,067 passengers passed through Heraklion’s airport. Chania’s passenger traffic amounted to 87,120 passengers and Rhodes welcomed 64,141 passengers.
