Athens Bicycle Weekend_23rd_1_bDemand was so great last year that organizers of the annual Athens Bicycle Round decided to make it into a weekend event to be held on April 16-17.

With more than 10,000 eager Athenians and friends showing up with bikes last year,  organizers this year have employed Syntagma Square as a base from where all bicycle-related activities will kick off. Whether you need a last-minute tune-up, to check the air in your tyres or even want to rent a bike, Syntagma Square is the place to be with experts on the spot to help you with your queries, offer free services and teach you some tricks of the trade. Organized by the Athens Municipality’s Cultural, Sport & Youth Organization (OPANDA), the event will also feature the #AthensBikes initiative.

Parallel activities include presentations of the latest bicycle trends, wear and accessories, an introduction to e-bikes, a kiddies piste for some two-wheel fun, information about male-female bikes, while bicycle magazine ΜBike will be there to share knowhow and tips.

The weekend sports happening comes to a close on Sunday with the 23rd Athens Bicycle Round which kicks off at 9.30am from Syntagma Square for the 11.5km run and at 9.50am for the 3km race.

Register online here by April 15. Participants this year can pay a token fee of 1 euro which will go towards the needs of the Doctors of the World Athens shelter.
