His tenure will start this summer. Frankfurt-based Fraport AG was awarded in December a 40-year deal to manage with its Greek partner energy firm Copelouzos the domestic airports at 14 regions across Greece. “The 14 Greek regional airports hold great potential regarding tourism. They are also highly significant for providing connectivity for the individual Greek regions and islands”, Mr. Zinell said. Alexander Zinell, aged 49, is a business graduate and has been with Fraport since 2001. As from 2003, he held executive positions for six years at Fraport subisidiaries in the U.S. and Turkey. From 2009 till today, Mr. Zinell has been in charge of Fraport’s “Global Investments and Management” unit, which is responsible for the Group’s international consultancy activities and airport investments. Under his leadership, Fraport successfully acquired the Airmall subsidiary in the U.S and opened up access to the world’s largest aviation market. He also contributed in Fraport’s new concessions for the operation of the airports in St. Petersburg (Russia) and Ljubljana (Slovenia), and, lately, the 14 Greek regional airports. The 14 regional airports under Fraport’s control are those in Thessaloniki, Corfu, Chania, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Aktion, Kavala, Rhodes, Kos, Samos, Mytilini, Mykonos, Santorini and Skiathos. “I am looking forward to having the opportunity of changing the image of these locations together with the rest of team of Fraport Greece. I am convinced that tourism in Greece – along with the employees at the airports, the local communities, the Greek state and not least Fraport Greece – will all benefit greatly from this cooperation”, Mr. Zinell added. Since the concession contracts for the 14 Greek regional airports have already been signed, Fraport anticipates that it will assume full responsibility for operating and further developing these airports by the end of this year.
