Destinations news Day Event to Focus on Noise Pollution in Athens by GTP editing team 18 April 2016 written by GTP editing team 18 April 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 10 In efforts to upgrade the standard of living in the city center, the Organizations and Citizens Network for the Historic Centre of Athens is adding to its series of initiatives a day event to be held on Tuesday, April 19, at the Athens Cultural Center, on the effects of noise pollution. The community body in collaboration with the Hellenic Society for the Protection of the Environment and Cultural Heritage, the municipality’s Cultural, Sport & Youth Organization (OPANDA) and the Greek Institute of Acoustics, are organizing the event titled “Noise Pollution: A Modern Wound for our Country”. Panelists will explore the legal framework with regards to the issue, share ideas and attempt to address the problem, which is particularly relevant in view of a government bill to facilitate licensing of enterprises in the historic city center. The day event aims among others to raise awareness of the long-term consequences of noise pollution, engage both community and professional bodies in securing change, boost the role of local administration in business licensing procedures, identify problem areas and offer solutions. Among its actions to raise awareness, the Organizations and Citizens Network for the Historic Centre of Athens has launched www.istorikokentro.gr, where interested parties can learn more about events as well as ongoing issues addressed by the network and affecting Athens communities. Admission to the event, which starts at 4.30pm at the A. Tritsis Hall, is free of charge. Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
