A leading destination for decades of the Northern European markets, Greece is now reaching out to new smaller markets in efforts to bring in tourism and boost revenue. Next on its list is Azerbaijan, where early this month Greece participated in the Caspian Sea region’s largest tourism event: the 15th Azerbaijan International Travel and Tourism Fair (Aitf) held in Baku.

The Greek participation — overseen by event organizers Aegean Communication, which operate almost exclusively for the promotion of Greek enterprises in the Turkish market — was aimed at exploring potential interest as well as the possibilities for collaboration between parties from the two countries. Among the Greek regions promoted were destinations in the Northern and Southern Aegean, Thessaly and Halkidiki. High-end accommodation facilities also took the spotlight including the Grand Resort Lagonissi, Electra & Hotels Resorts, Divani Collection Hotels and many more hospitality groups in Athens and Thessaloniki.

Azerbaijani professionals visited the Greek pavilion in order to get information concerning accommodation and top destinations as well as learn more about investment opportunities. Event organizers in the meantime collected information concerning the average Azerbaijani tourist who is likely to seek luxury or FIT (Free Independent Traveler) travel options with many travelling to Turkey and other destinations in Europe.
