The airport of Paros will be fully operational and linked with Greek and international destinations by July 16, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Christos Spirtzis said on his visit to the Cycladic island on Tuesday, adding that renovations were expected to get underway at airports on Milos, Naxos and Syros to be funded under the Investment Plan for Europe.

The minister meanwhile announced the government’s agreement with airlines under decreased subsidies for carriers serving remote islands. Mr Spirtzis underlined that the new deals would see expenses cut by 75 percent.

Meanwhile, Mr Spirtzis made special reference to Olympic Air for offering to construct half of the terminal building as well as accompanying projects, including roads and parkings areas.

The minister added that subsidies for the Athens-Paros air route came to 4.2 million euros per year. Once fully operational, Paros airport is expected to boost incoming tourism traffic, strengthen the local economy and create new jobs.
