This week we introduce “Bloode“, a website created by three university students — Natalia Kritsali, Alexandros Sotiropoulos and Panagiotis Sfikas — after they experienced the necessity for blood donations. The idea of “Bloode” began in 2012, when then university students Natalia Kritsali and Natalia Bougadeli were confronted with a problem: Natalia Bougadeli’s grandmother was in need of blood. 2014 finds Natalia Kritsali in Athens at Athens University of Economics and Business and Natalia Bougadeli, in U.S.A., at New York University. However, the idea of “Bloode” remained active and Natalia Kritsali decided to create a group based in Athens, and teamed up with Panagiotis and Alexander, students of the Athens University of Economics and Business. The team behind “Bloode” aims to increase the proportion of blood donors, to cover the need for blood and to inform and promote blood donations. The first steps included the creation of a website and ongoing calls for blood made by patients or their relatives. Afterwards, the team expanded to information events and then the design of an application for mobile smartphones. Their vision is to establish the first online community of blood donors and volunteers in Greece, in order to overcome this important social problem. Since its launch, “Bloode” has held 9 events, gathered 200 units and saved 593 lives. Inspired by the dynamism and creativity of the Greek entrepreneurial spirit, LoveGreece was founded in 2013 as an initiative to boost and promote the country’s image abroad by profiling talented and successful Greeks.
