Jointly organized by ChronoSystems and LifeRacing, the two-day event aims to showcase the cultural heritage and geographical uniqueness of Tinos, not only through the variety of sporting activities planned but also through initiatives such as treated lunch or dinner at the traditional villages of Ysternia and Panoromos on May 28 as well as breakfast on May 29. Organizers say participation in the event will only cost 50 euros as most of Tinos’ entrepreneurs will be offering discounts to those who register for the Tinos Challenge. Those signing up by May 9, will get 30 percent off ferry tickets as well as discounts at Panormos accommodation facilities and a 30 percent discount on car rentals from Vidalis Rent a Car. This year’s events include a 1km Vertical Ascent on Saturday from Ysternia Bay up to Ysternia village; a 20km road race on Sunday from Panormos beach towards Profitis Ilias at an altitude of 360m, downhill to Marlas, Pyrgos, Platia, the chapel of Karabousa, and back to Panormos; the 5km route on Sunday from Panormos beach toward Arpotamata and Pyrgos and then back to Panormos. Athletes who complete the Challenge event will vie for the Cyclades Trail Cup, the first Cycladic trail running championship. The Tinos Challenge is part of the Cyclades Trail Cup, which is organized for first time this year and includes events on several islands (Tinos, Andros, Syros) and aims to highlight the natural beauty and special features of each island.
