Event News Innovation in Tourism at Forefront of ‘Sustainable Paros’ Forum, Full Program by GTP editing team 12 May 2016 written by GTP editing team 12 May 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 7 Innovation in tourism, certification schemes and local initiatives carried out by young entrepreneurs will be discussed during the second “Sustainable Paros” forum to be held on Saturday, May 14, on the island of Paros. The forum, co-organized by the Municipality of Paros and Perantinos Travel & Tourism, will take place at Archilochos Hall in Parikia, Paros. Haris Martinos, a local and regional development expert, will coordinate the first part of the forum which will focus on innovative approaches in the field of tourism that can help pave the way towards a more sustainable model of development. The session will aim to cover as many aspects of the topic as possible, starting with a presentation of possible ways to improve the ferry connections between Paros and the mainland, as well as the connections between the various islands of the Cyclades. A close look will also be given to the topics of theme cruises and sports tourism. The second part of the forum will focus on the concept of “sustainable hotels” and will take a closer look at ways in which hotel owners can adopt more environmentally friendly business practices, whilst boosting the quality of services they offer. The challenges that are faced by tourism destinations as they shift towards more sustainable practices and the gains to be enjoyed will be analyzed. Paris Kaklamanos, consultant at the European Court of Auditors, Luxembourg, will coordinate the second session. During the third session, young professionals who come from different backgrounds and have carried out innovative and sustainable practices will be introduced. The professionals will describe their experiences from the time they have spent on Paros as well as their relationship with the local community. The coordinator of the third session will be Dr Ioannis Poulios, heritage management and sustainable development consultant, Hellenic Open University. Held for the second time on Paros, the forum will aim to inform in regards to the contemporary environmental problems that are currently affecting the island and to suggest ways of protecting and promoting the natural environment and cultural heritage. The forum will explore ways to foster the dialogue between all concerned bodies to produce concrete proposals and promote initiatives that can pave the way to a more sustainable future.
