More than 2,500 visitors participated in the event which featured some 54 craft, motor yachts, sailing yachts, catamarans and bareboats as experts and yachting lovers exchanged views on the latest trends and products. Over 250 Greek chartering companies, travel agents and ship brokers as well as businesses providing services in marine tourism got down to business for the summer with trade visitors from Israel, Russia, Turkey, UK, USA, Brazil, Cyprus, Poland, Germany, Serbia, France, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine and Italy. The six-day happening was organized by the Hellenic Professional Yacht Owners Association and the Hellenic Yacht Brokers Association in collaboration with the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies (HATTA), the Greek Professional Yacht Owners Bareboat Association and the Greek Economic Forum. The 15th East Med Yacht Show, under the auspices of the Shipping and Island Policy Ministry, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the Region of Attica, Piraeus Municipality and the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), is part of the municipality’s efforts to give momentum to the ongoing “Destination Piraeus” campaign. “Piraeus is once again in the international spotlight, hosting for the first time, one of the most successful yachting events, the 15th East Med Yacht Show 2016. For us, sea, shipping and tourism, are crucial to the development of Piraeus. In another extremely difficult year for the city and for the country, we need such synergies. We need openness,” said Piraeus Mayor Yannis Moralis. In the meantime, parties on board boats as well as cultural and music events took place on the sidelines of the show, which also collected funds for charity going towards the Amymoni society for children with visual impairment.
