Pioneering Greeks – GloVo, a Global Platform for Volunteers

Welcome to “Pioneering Greeks”, the weekly column of GTP Headlines, which highlights the Greeks that stand out for their creative thinking in the business world. “Pioneering Greeks” is a collaboration between LoveGreece.com and Greek Travel Pages (GTP).

This week we introduce GloVo, a global volunteers platform that gives people from all over the world the opportunity to register as volunteers and participate in many kinds of events, according to their skills, location and interests. Event organizers can also benefit from GloVo’s website as they can find volunteers that suit their events.

In other words: GloVo aims at matching great volunteers to great events.

GloVo was the second winner of Athens Startup Weekend University in 2012, a national startup competition, between 48 pitched ideas. The main idea was pitched by Kostapanos Miliaresis, who along with Haris Ninios, Aris Konstantinidis, Yiannis Tsimalis and Christos Panagiotou, formed the GloVo Team.

Kostapanas Miliaresis, a volunteer himself  since childhood, visualised GloVo after participating in the Special Olympics 2011. Today Glovo counts some 7,000 members.

GloVo also organizes its own social actions, aiming to make a positive impact on society by empowering and mobilizing young people to act.

Inspired by the dynamism and creativity of the Greek entrepreneurial spirit, LoveGreece was founded in 2013 as an initiative to boost and promote the country’s image abroad by profiling talented and successful Greeks. With their ethos and vision, Greece’s entrepreneurs and professionals are an important aspect of the country worth highlighting to the world. LoveGreece is powered by Gina Mamidaki, the founder of the G & A Mamidakis Foundation.
