Investments Parnassos Ski Center Set for Revamp by GTP editing team 27 May 2016 written by GTP editing team 27 May 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 4 Plans to direct financial backing from the so-called Juncker Plan to the upgrade of the Parnassos Ski Center topped the agenda of Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura’s recent meeting with mayors of the region. New lifts, the installation of wind turbines and a wind power plant, as well as of an artificial snowmaking machine were among the priorities set for the project. Minister Kountoura underlined that the Parnassos center upgrade — thanks to new financial tools — will help establish the region as an all-year-round tourist destination, leading to significant benefits for the local communities, through the development of thematic tourism and new destinations. Initiated by European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in 2014, the Juncker Plan offers aid to EU members in order to kick-start growth. Tourism is among the first sectors in Greece to receive EU funding to the tune of 112 million euros this year for three projects in addition to a fourth included in the infrastructure transport sector, under the EU Infrastructure Investment Plan. The mayors of Distomo – Arachova – Antikira and of Amfikleia – Elateia as well as municipal and local tourism authorities attended the meeting.
