Event News ‘Meeting the Odyssey’ Project Sails to Greece Bearing Theatricals by GTP editing team 30 May 2016 written by GTP editing team 30 May 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 4 Inspired by Greek hero Odysseus and his travels and travails, cultural project “Meeting the Odyssey” sets out for its last tour this summer to visit Greece between June 3 and August 9. “Meeting the Odyssey” is a social and artistic initiative that started in 2012 and has seen more than 350 artists from across the globe join in on 110 performances to 20,000 people in more than 25 ports. The project has sailed from the Baltic to the Mediterranean Sea on the Hoppet each summer giving workshops and performing theater works combining elements of the Odyssey, contemporary themes relevant to Europe and stories collected through exchange with locals. As a tribute to their source of inspiration, the team — aka the “ship filled with theater” — will travel to Greece, the home of Odysseus, on the Hoppet, beginning with a stop at Leros in the Dodecanese, and then Lesvos. From the island of Lesvos, the Hoppet will sail towards Elefsina and Lavrio as well as to Skyros and Ikaria, where some 50 artists will present a series of performances and workshops inspired by the Odyssey at villages around the islands. Beyond its artistic role, “Meeting the Odyssey” is a journey to bring people together, discover new artistic landscapes, enhance intercultural dialogue and overcome prejudices.
