The two parties discussed the great potential of tapping into dental tourism, particularly with regards to Athens’ revenue. Besides the city break potential of the Greek capital as well as its wide variety of sites, landmarks, monuments and museums, Athens can benefit from travelers seeking dental care combined with a vacation. Athens Dental Tourism Cluster president Nikolaos Kouvelas presented the group’s business plan and informed Mayor Kaminis of the opportunities for growth through this form of tourism. Mr Kouvelas said this was possible thanks to an EU directive which allows insured EU nationals to seek services across Member states and be reimbursed in their home country. The mayor said the municipal authority has been including alternative forms of tourism in its “Ergo: Athens 2020” development project aimed at boosting such initiatives and attracting new ones.
