From the wild terrain of Sfakia and the deep blue Lybian Sea to the footpaths of Chania, the Monastery of St John and the turquoise waters of the Balos Lagoon, Le Figaro journalist Maud Vidal-Naquet collected plenty of travel tid-bits to lure visitors to the Greek island of Crete.

In its 10-page feature titled “La Crète buissonnière” and complete with spectacular photos, Le Figaro offers plenty of insight into the island, its secrets and traditions with clear instructions on how to get there, what to do, what to see and what to taste.

Ms Vidal-Naquet, with the support of Marketing Greece, visited fishing villages, sampled fine Cretan food, sampled local wine and indulged in refreshing dives at some of the island’s pristine beaches.

In efforts to “discover the true face of the island”, Ms Vidal-Naquet also visited Heraklion, Knossos, Rethymno, Sitia, Kato Zakros as well as many small villages through “back roads”, olive groves and remote coves for the more genuine Cretan experience.
