Whether its needing a place to stay the night or a spot to keep your bicycle safe, the new Bike Friendly Hotels initiative rewards accommodation facilities in Greece, which not only offer hotel services tailored to cyclists’ needs but also actively contribute to sustainable tourism.

The Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPF) and NATTOUR have joined forces towards establishing the Bike Friendly Hotel project which as of July 18 awards those establishments that promote sustainable tourism a special Bike Friendly Hotel sticker in efforts to attract cyclists.

The said hotels should meet the basic criteria set out including one night stays, secure overnight bike storage, the provision of regional cycling maps, bike repair kits for minor repairs and maintenance, washing/drying facilities for clothes and gear, recommended bike repair and rental shops.

“These days, tourism professionals’ main concern is to extend the tourist season, and cycling tourism can help accommodation facilities attract tourists all year long,” Vicky Karantzavelou, PR manager NATTOUR said.
