Event News Tinos Marble Trail Takes Runners through Time, Culture by GTP editing team 27 June 2016 written by GTP editing team 27 June 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 6 Pack your bags, pull up your socks and get ready to run the Tinos Marble Trail: Exomeria to take place on September 4 in and around the traditionally preserved village of Pyrgos on the Cycladic island of Tinos. Jointly organized by the South Aegean Region under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO and the Tinos Municipality, the Tinos Marble Trail: Exomeria 2016 features three routes — 22km, 5km and 1km runs — designed to take amateur and professional athletes throughout Exomeria, the wider area in the northern part of the island. It is here and particularly in the village of Pyrgos where famed Tinian marble craftsmanship grew and is now listed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Runners will have the chance experience the wild landscape, the gorges and pristine beaches as well as the traditional villages and abandoned settlements, handmade footpaths, landmark windmills and pigeon houses, marble quarries, age old monasteries and chapels. An affordable running package — including reduced ferry ticket prices and exclusive accommodation offers — is available for all Marble Trail participants. Winners of the three races — the 22km Ismael Trail, the 5km Wind Mills Trail and the 1km Pyrgos Kids Run — will be awarded marble trophies sculpted by local artists especially for the occasion.
